In some instances, a traditional drive swap may not be recommended (or not suitable for some of our clients) in which case we may recommend upgrading the hard drive to a solid-state drive. In this case, we as computer consultants have a few options and processes that we can recommend. First, we can attempt to get the machine “prepped” to perform a clone so that your entire operating system, programs, files, and even licenses will be transitioned to the new machine and you will not miss a beat. In some cases, this may not be the most appropriate option, specifically when sector damage or file corruption is detected on the hard drive. In this case, we will make the recommendation on a clean, fresh install of the operating system to provide you a “brand new machine” experience where the operating system is put onto the machine providing an out of box experience.
